Reset and Rise—My Journey to Starting Over and Thriving

Reset and Rise—My Journey to Starting Over and Thriving

Nov 03, 2024

Have You Ever Felt Like Life Pressed Pause?

Life often has a way of forcing us to pause when we least expect it. For me, that moment came in September. A relationship ended, leaving me to question everything—my health, my business, and my sense of self.

It wasn’t just the end of the relationship that shook me. It felt like my entire life was up for review. Questions I had avoided for years bubbled to the surface: Who am I now? What do I truly want?

Maybe you’ve been there too. Studies show that significant life events, like a breakup, can trigger a period of deep reflection and personal reassessment, often paving the way for meaningful change (American Psychological Association).

This is the story of how I reset and began to rise again—and what it taught me about creating a fresh start, even in the face of uncertainty.

1. The Power of Starting with the Present

When everything feels chaotic, it’s tempting to push forward. We think, If I can just do this, then I’ll feel better. But in my experience, true growth begins with acceptance, not action.

In September, I realised that I couldn’t plan my way out of the uncertainty. Instead, I had to sit with it. I had to acknowledge where I was—without judgment—and let myself feel the discomfort of not knowing.

Harvard research highlights that mindfulness and acceptance reduce stress and build emotional resilience, giving us the tools to process life’s challenges more effectively (Harvard Medical School).

That wasn’t easy. But it was the first step in moving forward.

Lesson: You can’t build a new path if you’re not clear about where you’re starting from. Acknowledge the present moment, even if it feels uncomfortable.

2. Imagining the Future

Once I grounded myself in the present, I began to dream again. Not in a big, bold way, but in small, quiet moments.

I asked myself:

  • What kind of life would feel aligned with my values?
  • How could I prioritize my health in a way that felt nourishing, not restrictive?
  • What would it look like to build a business I truly loved?

Research reveals that aligning your goals with your values increases motivation and long-term success. People who focus on values-based goals report higher life satisfaction and greater clarity (Our World in Data).

These questions helped me reconnect with my purpose. I realised that my reset wasn’t about becoming a “new me.” It was about rediscovering the real me.

Lesson: When you let go of external expectations, you create space to dream about a future that feels true to YOU.

3. Letting Go of What No Longer Served Me

Resetting isn’t just about building something new—it’s also about letting go of the old.

I had to release beliefs and habits that were no longer serving me. For years, I had unconscious beliefs I did not realise were there until I took the time to be still and observe what was arising in my consciousness. I realised a people pleasing element and a desire to be liked, often at the expense of my own needs.

Letting go of those patterns wasn’t easy. But once I did, I felt lighter. Freer. More focused on what truly mattered.

According to Harvard Medical School, letting go of limiting beliefs increases focus and well-being. It allows us to reclaim mental space for the things that truly matter (Harvard Medical School).

Lesson: Growth often requires shedding what holds you back. Leave behind the things that no longer align with your values and create space for what does.

4. Creating a New Starting Point

With clarity came the courage to take small, intentional steps forward.

For my health, this meant adopting a high-fat diet that felt right for my body. For my business, it meant reimagining what I truly wanted to create. And for my life, it meant letting go of the need to have all the answers right away.

Research from Dominican University shows that setting small, achievable goals boosts success rates by 42%. Each small step builds momentum and strengthens confidence (Dominican University of California).

I didn’t need a grand plan. I just needed a starting point.

Lesson: A reset doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to feel authentic to you.

5. Rising with Intention

As I began to rise, I realised something important: not everything works out the way we expect—and that’s okay.

Rising isn’t about achieving perfection. It’s about progress. Each small step I took helped me rebuild my confidence and reconnect with my purpose. And as I continued to rise, I found a new sense of strength and clarity.

Research from the APA emphasises that resilience comes from consistent action and reframing challenges as opportunities for growth (American Psychological Association).

Lesson: Celebrate progress, not perfection. Every step forward is a testament to your resilience.

What Reset and Rise Means to Me

This journey taught me that resetting isn’t a one-time event. It’s a practice—a way of choosing yourself, again and again, even when the path feels uncertain.

That’s why I created Reset and Rise—to help others reflect, reset, and rise into a life that feels aligned and fulfilling.

If you’re ready to take that first step, this programme is for you. Let’s reset and rise together.
